Matt de Groot

Matt de Groot is the breakfast newsreader for Fitzy & Wippa on Sydney’s Nova 96.9, as well as host of Nova’s weekly morning show ‘Matt & Sarah’.

Matt grew up in Coffs Harbour where he was vice-captain of his primary and high school… and went to University in Canberra studying Sports Media.

He joined Nova in 2012 following a stint in the USA as a golf caddy for his younger sister. He was fired from that role, and subsequently returned to Sydney.

Along with radio, Matt is a regular panellist on ‘The Morning Show’ on Channel 7, Studio 10, appears often on Sky News, the ABC and other programs.

He is a rugby league commentator for Channel 9.

He’s been the game-day MC for the Sydney Swans, Wallabies and the Sydney Sixers…

He is a columnist for lifestyle website, 9Honey, discussing all things dating, and lifestyle. He also writes for the men’s lifestyle website Man of Many.

Matt’s an ambassador for the Primary Club, a spokesperson for the charity Thankful as well as Barnardos and has sat on the board of the Batting 4 Change charity.

He’s contributed to magazines supporting a range of issues, including same-sex marriage and is never afraid of putting his opinion forward, even if it goes against the popular view.

His first Sydney role was as sports journalist at Sydney’s 2UE. At 21 he was among the youngest to host a sports program in the station’s history. During his time at 2UE, he covered the Commonwealth Games in India, countless State of Origins, cricket tests, and has been face to face with Prime Ministers and Premiers.

He is a former ‘Coffs Harbour Young Australian of the Year’, and a baton relay runner for the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
