Dr Jacqui Ley is a Registered Specialist in Veterinary Behavioural Medicine – that is she is a veterinarian who works with animals who have mental health disorders. She sees behaviour cases on a referral basis at the Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre and works as a consultant, helping councils, government, companies and courts understand how animals think and feel and behave the way they do. Dr Ley received her veterinary degree from the University of Melbourne in 1995 and worked in small animal (dogs and cats) practice before sitting Memberships in Behavioural Medicine. She undertook a PhD at Monash University and the result, the Monash Canine Personality Questionnaire – revised (MCPQ-R) is being used by researchers worldwide to measure canine personality. She has also studied storm phobias in dogs and cat ownership. She is a diplomat of the European College of Animal Welfare and Veterinary Behaviour and Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. She has written several research papers on Canine Personality and cat behaviour and contributed to several text books on animal behaviour and the human animal bond. She teaches her veterinary colleagues and veterinary nurses and dog trainers about canine behaviour and mental health as well as presenting original research at international conferences.
