In 1995, two Siberian Husky enthusiasts travelled to Victoria to compete in what was then Australia’s largest sled dog race. Inspired by the experience, they returned to Queensland determined to bring the sport north, leading to the formation of Northern Exposure Gig Racing Club Inc. Now celebrating 30 years, NEGRC continues to promote an active, welcoming family‑friendly sled dog community.

Sled dog racing is an exciting recreational ,competitive sport for all ages, with classes ranging from mini peewee for young children through toopen divisions. Teams race on a marked trail, leaving the start chute at timed intervals and being individually timed, with results compared after all heats.

Competitors can run dogs using a two‑wheeled scooter or three‑wheeled rig, take part in bikejoring with a standard bike, or enjoy canicross, running with their dog via a hands‑free belt. All dogs are safely tethered using a harness and gangline
