Why does my dog flick dirt?

This is a normal dog behaviour. Dogs have scent glands in their feet that secrete pheromones and when a dog scuffs the ground after defecating they are releasing and spreading the pheromones. These pheromones are a form of communication and are a way for a dog to mark their territory and provide information to other dogs about gender and sexual availability. If there are other dogs around at the time you may notice your dog kicking with more vigour.

Why does my dog eat grass?

It is thought that dogs eat grass for a number of reasons; to increase dietary fibre, to fill a nutritional void, to induce vomiting if they feel unwell, and many dogs just seem to really enjoy it.
It is not usually a problem if the grass is pesticide and chemical free. If your dog is chewing grass constantly or you are worried about a change in behaviour, please chat to your vet to rule out underlying medical issues.

Why playing fetch with sticks is dangerous

Most dogs love playing fetch with sticks but they can be extremely dangerous as they often splinter and pieces can get caught in the mouth or throat. Dogs can also get impaled by a stick and it can get lodged in their throat or soft tissues which can be life threatening. This often happens when a dog runs towards a stick and it lands at a bad angle or bounces up into the dog’s mouth while it is still running. Replace sticks with safe rubber toys that have blunt ends.
